Plaza de Las Platerias, Santiago de Compostela

The Silver Square is bound by the cathedral and the cloister on two of its sides. The decoration of the Plaza de la Platerias  dates from between 1078 to 1103. Its name is derived from a silversmith settlement that has a large number of premises devoted to jewelry of the Middle Ages. In the center of the square, stands the Italian-style Fountain of Horses which Federico García Lorca nicknamed "The Fountain of the Dream" in one of his poems. Of these horses, there is a pedestal topped by a female figure with one arm raised, holding the star of Compostela. This fountain was designed and constructed by J. Pernas in 1825.
