Grindelwald

Grindelwald is a village and municipality in the Interlaken-Oberhasli administrative district in the canton of Bern in Switzerland. The  village is located at 1,034 m above sea level in the Bernese Alps. Grindelwald is first mentioned in 1146 as Grindelwalt. The oldest trace of a settlement in the area are scattered neolithic tools which have been discovered around Grindelwald village.

The falls are located on the Upper Rhine. They are 150m wide and 23m high. The Rhine Falls were formed in the last ice age, approximately 14,000 to 17,000 years ago, by erosion- resistant rocks narrowing the riverbed.
