The Assumption Church and Korniakt's Tower, Lviv

The Archcathedral Basilica of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, usually called simply the Latin Cathedral is located in the Old Town. The first church built on this site was a small wooden Roman Catholic church dedicated to the Holy Trinity, built in 1344 and lost in a fire six years later. In 1360 King Casimir III of Poland founded the construction of the present day church.

The Korniakt Palace is a prime example of the townhouse. It was originally built by architect Piotr Barbon for merchant Konstanty Korniakt, a champion of Greek Orthodoxy. Construction of this severely elegant Renaissance palazzo was completed in 1580. After Korniakt's death in 1603, King Wladyslaw IV Vasa stayed at his palace.
