Grindelwald is a village and municipality in the Interlaken-Oberhasli administrative district in the canton of Bern in Switzerland. The village is located at 1,034 m above sea level in the Bernese Alps. Grindelwald is first mentioned in 1146 as Grindelwalt. The oldest trace of a settlement in the area are scattered neolithic tools which have been discovered around Grindelwald village.
